A method for patient specific, real time automatically adjusting at least one of technical exposure factors taken from the group consisting of:- X-ray tube power (kV),- X-ray tube current (mA),- Exposure duration (sec) and- Film speedfor acquiring a radiographic image, the method comprising the following steps:A) A first (scout) acquisition is performed, using pre-defined parameters in a specific anatomical area of a patient；B) A Region Of Interest (ROI) is extracted, and from itC) A grey level histogram of the image pixels is provided；The method provides for the further steps of:D) The histogram of the acquired image is segmented into at least two sectors；E) At least a coefficient is assigned for each sector；F) A weight is assigned to each sector coefficient；G) At least an exposure parameter is computed according to the weights assigned to each sector；then the exposure of the real acquisition is performed with the parameters computed according to the method.
