The subject-matter of the present invention is the use of a therapeutic composition comprising, in an applying carrier, at least one essential oil for relieving muscle and/or joint pain in an animal subject, wherein said composition topically treats an area of the skin of said subject, characterized in that said composition comprises methyl salicylate, which constitutes, with at least one essential oil of the composition containing same in only a small amount or not at all, an active agent within which the rate of transport of the methyl salicylate through the skin is increased by virtue of the oil, which is an essential oil.La présente invention a pour objet une utilisation d'une composition thérapeutique comportant, dans un véhicule d'application, au moins une huile essentielle pour induire un soulagement de douleurs musculaires et/ou articulaires d'un sujet animal, ladite composition traitant par voie topique une zone de la peau dudit sujet, caractérisée en ce que ladite composition comporte du salicylate de méthyle, qui constitue, avec au moins une huile essentielle de la composition n'en contenant que peu ou pas du tout, un agent actif au sein duquel la vitesse de transport du salicylate de méthyle à travers la peau est augmentée grâce à l'huile, essentielle.
