A membrane removing instrument may include one or more abrasive surfaces configured to raise a portion of a membrane. A surgeon may raise a portion of a membrane by grazing the portion of the membrane with one or more abrasive surfaces of a membrane removing instrument. The surgeon may grasp the raised portion of the membrane with a first forceps jaw distal end and a second forceps jaw distal end. The surgeon may then remove the membrane by peeling the membrane apart from an underlying tissue.
