This absorbent article is equipped with a body part and fastening tapes. The body part has an absorbent body and side flaps. The absorbent body has a crotch section and a ventral section and a dorsal section which are arranged to the front and the back, respectively, of the crotch part. The side flaps, each having a skin-facing surface and a non-skin-facing surface, are provided on laterally opposite edges of the dorsal section. Each fastening tape has a flexible tape backing and a fastening material. The tape backing extends laterally from the side flap. The fastening material includes a fastening surface that is connected to the tape backing and is capable of being affixed to the ventral section. The fastening tape is configured to be foldable between a non-use position in which the fastening surface is temporarily affixed to the skin-facing surface and a use position in which the fastening surface is peeled off the skin-facing surface.
