To provide a defense factor promoter which does not give harmful effect to a body, since, in prior arts, in peptic ulcer treatment, an aggressive factor inhibitor has been used often, on the other hand, a defense factor improver which can exhibit not only treatment and improvement but also prophylactic affect has not been used often relative to the aggressive factor inhibitor, however, if a physical function is reduced, the aggressive factor inhibitor exhibits too strong action so that a load applied to a patient is large, therefore, a defense factor promoter which gives no harmful effect to a body is desired.SOLUTION: There is provided a gastric mucosa protective agent containing, as an active ingredient, an extract produced by extracting a spike portion of Zingiber mioga with lower alcohol or hydrous object thereof.
