A sterilizing apparatus for checking whether a liquid in a reservoir (a liquid storage part) is distilled water and notifying the outside of the distilled water checked information, and a controlling method thereof are proposed. The proposed sterilizing apparatus comprises: an electrical conductivity sensing part sensing electrical conductivity of the liquid in the liquid reservoir； an alarm part for performing an alarm operation； and a control part for controlling the alarm unit to perform the alarm operation if the sensed signal from the electrical conductivity sensing part is a signal indicating that the sensed signal is not distilled water.저수조(액체 저장부)내의 액체가 증류수인지를 체크하여 증류수가 아니면 이를 외부에 통지하도록 하는 멸균장치 및 이의 제어 방법을 제시한다. 제시된 멸균장치는 액체 저장부내의 액체에 대한 전기전도도를 감지하는 전기전도도 감지부, 알람 동작을 수행하는 알람부, 및 전기전도도 감지부로부터의 감지신호가 증류수가 아님을 의미하는 신호이면 알람부를 제어하여 알람 동작이 수행되게 하는 제어부를 포함한다.
