PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for improving viscosity stability with time of an external preparation for skin which has excellent physiological activity and comprises a nitrogen atom-containing polymer component such as a polyvinylpyrrolidone, a cationized cellulose, a polymethacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine, a polymethacryloyllysine, etc., or its salt.SOLUTION: The external preparation for skin of essence form comprises (1) carrageenan and (2) a nitrogen-containing polymer and/or its salt. The nitrogen-containing polymer is preferably selected from a polyvinylpyrrolidone, a polymethacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine, a polymethacryloyllysine and a cationized cellulose. The content of the nitrogen-containing polymer and its salt except the carrageenan is preferably 1-5% by mass and the content of the carrageenan is preferably 0.1-5% by mass.
