The invention relates to a device (1) for assisting the transition from the sitting position to the standing position, and vice versa, by forward inclination of a seat (3). The device (1) comprises a support assembly (2), means for connecting the latter to the seat (3), a first support piece (4) and a second support piece (5) movable between a high position and a low position, and means for moving the first and second support members (4, 5) between the up and down positions, whereby after the contact region of the first support member (4) is placed in low position in contact with the ground, the support assembly (2), and thus the seat (3) to which it is connected, is tilted by displacement of the second support piece (5), after its region contact has come into contact with the ground towards its low or high position.
