The invention relates to a biodegradable, magnesium-containing bone screw for implanting into a patient body for use in medical applications, such as, orthopedic and craniofacial surgery. The bone screw has a tapered head, a threaded shaft and pointed tip. The composition of the bone screws provide for improved biodegradability and biocompatibility, and the features of the structure of the bone screws facilitates guidance and placement during implantation as well as reduces the potential for mechanical failures. Moreover, the bone screws are effective to provide targeted release of magnesium ions resulting in enhanced new bone formation.Linvention concerne une vis à os contenant du magnésium biodégradable, destinée à être implantée dans le corps dun patient, pour une utilisation dans des applications médicales telles quune chirurgie orthopédique ou craniofaciale. La vis à os comporte une tête effilée, un arbre fileté et une extrémité pointue. La composition des vis à os confère une biodégradabilité et une biocompatibilité améliorées, et les caractéristiques de la structure des vis à os facilitent le guidage et la mise en place pendant limplantation et réduisent le potentiel de défaillances mécaniques. De plus, les vis à os sont efficaces pour conférer une libération ciblée dions de magnésium entraînant une nouvelle formation osseuse améliorée.
