An indwelling urinary catheter is subject to slipping out of a patients bladder unless provisions are made for retaining it. Retention apparatus for use with a male patient provides a clamp bearing on the catheter, an anchor member attached to the male patients penis and a linking member connecting the anchor and clamp so as to hold the clamp against the penis. A single-use intermittent catheter, in conjunction with the retention apparatus provides an indwelling catheter that does not require an intra-bladder balloon to hold it in place within the bladder.
