PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical image processing apparatus performing processing capable of easily recognizing a positional relation between respective parts to be displayed as projection images, in particular, a front and rear (depth) in a visual line direction without damaging merits that a projection image has, in a medical site, and to provide a medical image processing method.SOLUTION: A medical image processing apparatus includes: a display part 1g displaying a projection image generated as a medical image； and a display auxiliary part 20 distinguishing a clinical area as an area clinically required by a person who views the projection image from a non-clinical area as another area, on the projection image, and also clearly indicating each positional relation between respective parts in the clinical area by displaying the relation on a display part in a display mode corresponding to a depth in the clinical area on the basis of depth information that the projection image has.【課題】医療の現場において、投影画像が備えるメリットを毀損することなく、投影画像として表示される各部の位置関係、特に視線方向の前後（奥行き）を容易に認識することが可能な処理を行う医用画像処理装置及び医用画像処理方法を提供する。【解決手段】医用画像として生成された投影画像を表示する表示部１ｇと、投影画像上にて投影画像を見る者において臨床上必要とする領域である臨床領域とその他の領域である非臨床領域とを区分けするとともに、投影画像が備える奥行き情報に基づいて、臨床領域における奥行きに応じた表示態様で表示部に表示させることで臨床領域における各部のそれぞれの位置関係を明示する表示補助部２０とを備える。【選択図】図２
