Disclosed herein is a composite material for guided tissue regeneration (GTR). The composite material includes a substrate, a plurality of calcium salt particles and a hydrophilic polymeric coating layer. The substrate includes a plurality of biodegradable fibers interlaced with each other, and whereby pluralities of interstices are formed in the substrate. The calcium salt particles are dispersed in the composite. The hydrophilic polymer coating layer is adhered to at least a portion of the surface of the biodegradable fibers such that the composite material exhibits hydrophilicity.
