PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable work machine that has a brake mechanism for reliably stopping a rotating reaping blade in a short period of time, without deteriorating operability of a bush cutter.SOLUTION: A bush cutter 1 includes: a rod part 30 a power source 10 that is fixed to one end of the rod part 30 a drive part 21 that is arranged at the other end of the rod part 30 to which the power source 10 is fixed, and which drives various types of working tools and a shaft part 70 that rotatably connects the power source 10 and the drive part 21 to the rod part 30 and that is arranged within the rod part 30.
