PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mammography apparatus capable of reducing a burden of a subject in MLO imaging, and a mammography method.SOLUTION: The mammography apparatus according to one embodiment includes a rectangular X-ray detector, a focused grid, and an X-ray tube. The rectangular X-ray detector is provided rotatably, with a direction perpendicular to the surface of a compression plate defined as an axis. The focused grid is disposed with a plurality of foils to become parallel to a diagonal line of the X-ray detector.
