The present invention provides an ultrasonic probe battery pack radio for medical diagnostic imaging, to provide a system for communicating with an ultrasonic scanner. According to the present invention, an ultrasonic imaging system includes a wireless radio unit (30) as a part of a detachable battery pack (14). Electric charge, signals used for locating a battery, and other information can be communicated from the battery pack (14) wirelessly even if an ultrasonic transducer probe (12) is not connected. Queries, configuration data and other information can be communicated with a probe (12) battery and a circuit (20) thereof from an ultrasonic system (32) or a locator device (36). When connection is realized, the identical radio unit (30) can be used by the ultrasonic transducer probe (12).
