The present invention aims to provide a disposable diaper free from an apprehension that the wearer might experience uncomfortable feeling to wear the diaper even if the depth of the feces receiving space is increased. A disposable diaper (1) has a front waist region (6), a rear waist region (7) and a crotch region (8). The crotch region (8) is divided by a front folding guide (32) and a rear folding guide (33) extending in parallel to each other in a transverse direction of the diaper (1) into a front section (51), a rear section (52) and an intermediate section (53). The crotch region (8) is provided on the side of its inner surface with a pair of contracting means (61) extending in parallel to each other in a longitudinal direction and spaced from each other. Front portions (28) of the respective contracting means (61) are fixed to the inner surface of the diaper (1) in positions anterior to a line (D-D) bisecting a longitudinal dimension of the intermediate section (53) while rear portions (29) of the respective contracting means (61) are fixed to the inner surface of the diaper (1) in positions posterior to the intermediate section (53) so that intermediate portions (31) of the respective contracting means (61) may be spaced from the inner surface of the diaper (1) and elastically contractible in the longitudinal direction.
