The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating neurological disorders comprising maackiain or an acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, wherein the maackiain or an acceptable salt thereof exhibits an effect of inhibiting the activity of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) associated with neurological disorders in selective, reversible, and competitive manners, and has little cytotoxicity to be used safely in pharmaceutical or food compositions for the prevention or treatment of neurological disorders. Therefore, it is anticipated that maackiain or an acceptable salt thereof can be usefully used as a MAO-B reversible inhibitor capable of inhibiting the activity of the novel MAO-B.본 발명은 막키아인 또는 이의 허용가능한 염을 유효성분으로 포함하는 신경 질환의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 상기 막키아인 또는 이의 허용가능한 염은 신경 질환과 연관이 있는 모노아민 산화효소 B형(MAO-B)의 활성을 선택적, 가역적, 및 경쟁적으로 저해하는 효과를 나타내며, 세포독성이 거의 없으므로, 신경 질환을 예방 또는 치료하기 위한 약학적 또는 식품 조성물에 안전하게 사용할 수 있다. 따라서, 막키아인 또는 이의 허용가능한 염은 신규한 MAO-B의 활성을 저해할 수 있는 MAO-B 가역적 억제제(reversible inhibitor)로 유용하게 이용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
