PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a fuel oil base material having reduced specific odor with a high yield.SOLUTION: A fuel oil base material production method according to the present invention includes the steps of: cracking raw oil containing a heavy fraction, obtained by the fractional distillation of pyrolysis oil obtained by the pyrolysis of naphtha, in an amount of 1 vol.% or more and 10 vol.% or less based on the total volume of the raw oil by a fluid catalytic cracking unit to obtain cracked petroleum; and fractionally distilling the obtained cracked petroleum.
