A system for disinfecting a medical device is provided. The apparatus includes a light source that generates light having at least one wavelength between about 10 nm and about 500 nm. The system includes at least one cylindrical light diffusing device disposed in optical communication with at least one internal channel of a medical device, the light having an end optically coupled to an outer surface and a light source. A diffusion device is further provided.
