PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for sterilizing a water purifier is provided to sterilize water stored in a storing bath, a cool-water bath, and a hot-water bath by transferring the water to an auxiliary tank using an ultraviolet-ray lamp. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for sterilizing a water purifier includes an ultraviolet-ray lamp(140), a pump, and a controller. The ultraviolet-ray lamp is installed in an auxiliary tank(130) and generates ultraviolet ray. The pump pumps the sterilized water from the auxiliary tank to a storing bath(100). The controller controls the sterilization of the water stored in the storing bath, a cool-water bath(110), a hot-water bath(120) by driving the ultraviolet-ray lamp, the pump, and a plurality of valves.본 발명은 정수기에 저장된 물을 살균 소독하는 정수기의 살균장치 및 방법에 관한 것으로서 저수조, 냉수조 및 온수조에 저장된 물을 펌프로 펌핑하여 보조 탱크에 저장하고, 미리 설정된 시간동안 자외선 램프를 점등시켜 보조 탱크에 저장된 물을 살균 소독하며, 살균 소독이 완료될 경우에 보조 탱크에서 저장된 물을 펌프로 펌핑하여 저수조에 저장한다.
