A synthetic resin composition for forming an article, such as a container orbagfor garbage, or electrical wiring insulation, which repels animals such asrodents,opossum, cats, dogs, and birds. The composition includes a thermoplasticpolymer andfrom 10 to 15,000 ppm by weight of an odorant compound such as a salicylicacid ester,menthol, corn mint oil, eucalyptus oil, and camphor, and combinations thereof.Theresin composition may comprise more than one thermoplastic polymer,polyethyleneand ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer being preferred first and secondthermoplasticpolymers, respectively. In a method for forming the synthetic resincomposition, thecompound is added to the second polymer in a ratio of about 1:2 parts byweight to forma master blend that then is added to an amount of the first polymer at amaster blendpercentage of about 1.5%.
