There is provided an immunogenic composition comprising a partial glycosylated viral glycoprotein for use as a vaccine against a virus. Vaccines made using mono-, di-, or tri-glycosylated virus surface glycoproteins and polypeptides provide potent and broad protection against viruses across strains. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising monoglycosylated hemaglutinin polypeptides and vaccines prepared therefrom and methods of using them in the prevention or treatment of viral infections are disclosed.
