Described herein is a composition of TSH in which at least one polyalkylene glycol polymer is bound to a carbohydrate site of thyrotropin (TSH). Also, a composition of mutated thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and at least one polyalkylene glycol polymer, wherein the mutated TSH is one or more amino acid residues that are cysteine residues. Also described are compositions comprising a substituted TSH, wherein the polyalkylene glycol polymer is attached to a mutated TSH at the site of the substituted cysteine residue.
