Disclosed is the use of lactoperoxidase, glucose oxidase, glucose, and an organic acid and/or an organic acid salt as active ingredients in the manufacture of a pharmaceutical composition for prevention and/or treatment of periodontal disease, oral malodor, or aspiration pneumonia, wherein the pH of the pharmaceutical composition is adjusted from 4.4 to 5.4 by the organic acid and/or the organic acid salt, wherein the organic acid is at least one acid selected from the group consisting of citric acid, lactic acid, malic acid, succinic acid, tartaric acid, and glutamic acid, and wherein the pharmaceutical composition does not contain thiocyanate added as an active ingredient. Also disclosed is the use of lactoperoxidase, glucose oxidase, glucose, and an organic acid and/or an organic acid salt as active ingredients in the manufacture of a pharmaceutical composition wherein the pharmaceutical composition is formulated as an oral disinfectant, or as a food additive.
