The invention relates to a novel method for identifying a metabolite that is suited to be used in diagnostics of a liver disease or of a severity of a liver disease. The following metabolites have been identified as suited biomarkers by this method: carbonyl sulfide, dimethylsilane, acetic acid, propanol, cysteine, S-methyl thioacrylate, bis-(methylthio)methane, 3-mercaptopropane-,2-diol, ethenamine, n-butylamine, serine, trimethylamine, ornithine, cinnamaldehyde, glutamine, diallyl disulfide, glutamic acid, selenocystein, hydrogen cyanide, methionine, 2- mercaptoindole, dimethyl sulfoxide, benzene, and 2-mercaptoethanol.L'invention concerne un procédé innovant d'identification d'un métabolite qui est adapté à une utilisation dans des diagnostics de maladie du foie ou de sévérité de maladie du foie. Les métabolites suivants ont été identifiés comme des biomarqueurs appropriés par ce procédé : sulfure de carbonyle, diméthylsilane, acide acétique, propanol, cystéine, S-méthylthioacrylate, bis-(méthylthio)méthane, 3-mercaptopropane-,2-diol, éthénamine, n-butylamine, sérine, triméthylamine, ornithine, cinnamaldéhyde, glutamine, disulfure de diallyle, acide glutamique, sélénocystéine, cyanure d'hydrogène, méthionine, 2-mercaptoindole, sulfoxyde de diméthyle, benzène, 2-mercaptoéthanol.
