摘 要:
The Sal fed ecorace 'Korbi' of tropical tasar silk insect Antheraea paphia Linn was considered for this study to analyze the existing variability between the cocoon associates of both the sexes and inter-association and regression function of the different quantitative traits of cocoons in both the sexes separately. The multiple correlation and regression were computed in both the sexes with different combinations of independent variables surmising the effect on selected response variables to adjudicate the prediction success of each model in functioning of multilinear regression. Altogether 14 traits of male and female cocoons for 11 interim measures were analyzed and their significance was evaluated. The multiple correlations between the cocoon associates of male population elucidated different magnitudes of positive and negative association among the different predictor and criterion variables. Thus, the cocoons with thick peduncle inferred cocoons of significantly highervolume. The cocoons with increased diameter of peduncle conferred significant increase in the 'shell percent' (r=0.575**., P < 0.01., Df=13). The increase in the 'length of cocoons' attributed significant increase in 'breadth of cocoons' (r=0.651**., P< 0.01., Df=13), 'length-breadth ratio of cocoons' (r=0.554*. P < 0.05., Df= 13), 'longitudinal circumference of cocoons' (r=0.934**., P < 0.01., Df=13), 'horizontal circumference of cocoons' (r=0.794**.,P < 0.01., Df=13) and 'volume of cocoons' (r=0.872**., P < 0.01., Df=13).The increase in predictor variable 'breadth of cocoons' communicated increase in criterion variables 'longitudinal circumference of cocoons' (r=0.740**., P < 0.01,, Df= 13), 'horizontal circumference of cocoons' (r=0.890**., P < 0.01., Df=13), 'cocoon weight' (r=0.502*., P < 0.05., Df=13) and "volume of cocoons' (r=0.937**., P < 0.01., Df=13). The increase in the 'length-breadth ratio of cocoons' produced the cocoons with higher 'longitudinal-horizontal circumference ratio' (r=0.585**., P < 0.01. Df =13). The increase in 'longitudinal circumference of cocoons' conferred significant increase in 'horizontal circumference of cocoons' (r=0.837**., P < 0.01., Df =13) and in the 'volume of the cocoons' (r=0.907**., P < 0.01., Df=l3). Likewise, increase in 'horizontal circumference of cocoons' produced the cocoons of significantly higher volume (r=0.930**., P < 0.01., Df=13). The cocoon with higher weight had the higher values of 'shell weight' (r=0.891**., P < 0.01., Df=13), 'pupa weight' (r=0.955**., P < 0.01., Df=13) and 'volume of the cocoons' (r=0.480**., P < 0.05., Df=13). Moreover, the increase in 'shell weight' significantly increased the 'pupa weight' (r=0.798**., P < 0.01., Df =13) and 'shellpercent' (r=0.486*., P < 0.05., Df=13). Altogether 12 different multilinear regression models with variable number of independent variables and response variable were computed to know the functioning of different regression models. The Fisher's ratio of regression value and its significance have been discussed adducing significance of regression constant, regression coefficient, standard error of estimates, multiple correlation, R-Square, Adjusted R-Square, their magnitude of significance and level of determination by independent associates to determine thedependent associate.
