摘要:
Despite an increasing number of studies documenting life-history evolution during range expansions or shifts, we lack a mechanistic understanding of the underlying physiological processes. In this explorative study, we used a metabolomics approach to study physiological changes associated with the recent range expansion of the two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae). Mite populations were sampled along a latitudinal gradient from range core to edge and reared under benign common garden conditions for two generations. Using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, we obtained metabolic population profiles, which showed a gradual differentiation along the latitudinal gradient, indicating (epi)genetic changes in the metabolome in association with range expansion. These changes seemed not related with shifts in the mites’ energetic metabolism, but rather with differential use of amino acids. Particularly, more dispersive northern populations showed lowered concentrations of several essential and nonessential amino acids, suggesting a potential downregulation of metabolic pathways associated with protein synthesis.

In order to improve the quality of catalysis products of algae, composite molecular sieve catalyst was prepared by digestion and crystallization of HZSM-5 to reduce the oxygen content of the catalytic products.?According to the analysis of the pyrolysis products, the best preparation conditions were chosen of TPAOH solution 2.0mol/L, CTAB solution 10wt%, crystallization temperature?110?, digestion-crystallization time: 24-24h. The results indicate that the main function of catalysts is to promote the conversion of alcohols into hydrocarbons by reducing energy barriers. Catalyzed by the composite molecular sieve, the content of alcohols in the pyrolysis products decreased from more than 30% to less than 10%, the content of hydrocarbons increased from 20% to nearly 60%, while all the adverse components remained at a low level, which indicates that the catalytic pyrolysis products are of high quality.?The great deoxidation effect of composite molecular sieves is not only due to the expansion of the range of organic matter during re-pyrolysis, but also the increasing of the residence time of pyrolysis products inside the structure for the external mesoporous structure.

Selection can facilitate diversification by inducing character displacement in mate choice traits that reduce the probability of maladaptive mating between lineages. Although reproductive character displacement (RCD) has been demonstrated in two-taxa case studies, the frequency of this process in nature is still debated. Moreover, studies have focused primarily on visual and acoustic traits, despite the fact that chemical communication is probably the most common means of species recognition. Here, we showed in a large, mostly sympatric, butterfly genus, a strong pattern of recurrent RCD for predicted male sex pheromone composition, but not for visual mate choice traits. Our results suggest that RCD is not anecdotal, and that selection for divergence in male sex pheromone composition contributed to reproductive isolation within the Bicyclus genus. We propose that selection may target olfactory mate choice traits as a more common sensory modality to ensure reproductive isolation among diverging lineages than previously envisaged.
