摘要：

Construction sector has been the primary consumer of softwood lumber and engineered wood products in Japan. Japan’s long-term demographic trends coupled with COVID-19-induced economic downturn underlie a stark outlook for the country's housing starts. Future policy developments in building standards and sustainability criteria may promote softwood market expansion in the areas of nonresidential construction and biomass utilization.
