Ad hoc assistance programs that specifically target agricultural producers are occasionally authorized to provide support in the event of natural disasters or unprecedented market conditions. Assistance delivered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through these programs grew substantially from 2017 to 2021 but then declined in 2022.
