This year's edition of International DebtStatistics, successor to Global DevelopmentFinance and World Debt Tables, and the fourth inthe series, is designed to respond to user demandfor timely, comprehensive data on trends in externaldebt in low- and middle-income countries. TheWorld Bank's Debtor Reporting System (DRS),from which the aggregate and country tables presentedin this report are drawn, was establishedin 1951. World Debt Tables, the first publicationthat included DRS external debt data, appearedin 1973 and gained increased attention during thedebt crisis of the 1980s. Since then, the publicationand data have undergone numerous revisions anditerations to address the challenges and demandsposed by the global economic conditions.Presentation of and access to data have beenrefined to improve the user experience. The onlineedition of International Debt Statistics 2018 nowprovides a summary overview and a select set ofindicators, while an expanded dataset is availableonline (datatopics.worldbank.org /debt/ids).
