- Key View Key View:we have made minor forecast adjustments to account for the new realities and challenges being faced by the Egyptian food sector. Our five-year outlook remains broadly unchanged as we retain the view that Egypt will face growing production deficits in grains and meat while the dairy sector will benefit from sustained private investment. Leading up to 2022, an expanding population and rising disposable incomes will support consumption growth in livestock, sugar and dairy products. Moreover rice and grain consumption will benefit from the greater range of products available under the new food subsidy scheme, with com demand rising owing to strong requirements ofthe feed segment The critical challenges that Egypt faces over the long term are a weak currency, water shortages and the need to improve farming mechanisms to conserve water for sustained irrigation purposes.
