A coffin comprising a base panel, a lid 2, two side panels 3 and 4 and two ends panels 6 and 7 wherein either the end or side panels are collapsible and wherein the side and end panels are provided with cooperating non hinged male and female connecting brackets 8, 9 and 12. The device may be used as a decorative sleeve to cover a more readily disposable coffin. The side panels 3 and 4 may be attached by hinges and the arrangement may collapse to form a flat pack. The connecting brackets 8, 9 and 12 may be bed connecting brackets which utilise hooks. The lid 2 may be slid into place along grooves in the side panels 3 and 4 and may have a latch to lock it in place. The device is designed to be constructed without tools.
