The surgical device includes an elongated device body attached to a dissection head having a tissue biasing mechanism configured for blunt tissue dissection and an element for preventing trapping of tissue within the tissue biasing mechanism. According to still further features in the described preferred embodiments the element for preventing trapping of tissue between the at least one pair of movable jaws is a finger-like extension positioned between the at least one pair of movable jaws.
