The invention relates to an intraoral probe for determining the periodontal status, comprising a handle which has a mounting at the front end for a replaceable examining tip and which is provided with transmitting means for transmitting signals to an analyzing device. The examining tip can be fixed on the handle in a rotationally fixed manner. According to the invention, the handle has a camera and an objective opening, and the examining tip is arranged in the field of view of the camera. The invention further relates to a method for ascertaining the depth of a depression by means of such an intraoral probe.
