The invention relates to a tag for identifying an animal, in particular livestock, comprising a first part provided with a male element (3) and a second part (4) provided with a female element, wherein the parts are arranged to form a mutual interlocking connection for connecting the tag to a portion, in particular an ear, of the animal, wherein one of the parts comprises a transponder body (5) holding a transponder for identification of the animal, the transponder body being arranged in the tag for recovery of the transponder body during dismantling of the tag for reuse of the transponder body with said transponder in another tag.
