The invention relates to a planting container, such as a flowerpot or bowl, for self-watering, which has a perforated bottom, through which a suction device is guided, which sucks the liquid out of a reservoir and connects the planting space of the planting vessel in a liquid-conveying manner to the reservoir. The planting vessel can be used conventionally as well as for self-watering by the bottom of the planting vessel having at least one insertion recess, preferably a sleeve-shaped insertion recess directed from the bottom to the planting space, by a closed suction pipe filled with absorbent material being introducable as a suction device into the insertion recess and by the suction pipe being guided with its open lower end side into the direct proximity of the bottom of the reservoir and there being connected to the liquid stored therein.
