Disclosed is a therapeutic agent for hypertension by elucidating a gene that causes hypertension in relation to circadian rhythm. The antihypertensive drug contains the following specific substance as an active ingredient. The specific substance includes a first gene that controls circadian rhythm in the adrenal cortex, a second gene that is affected by the behavior of the first gene, and that is involved in the production of adrenocortical hormone, and the first gene and the second gene that are described above. This affects the expression of at least one of the third genes related to signal transduction connecting these genes, or the activity of the gene product. It was confirmed that a change in blood pressure was caused by giving a specific substance. Moreover, screening for antihypertensive drugs can be performed using specific cells containing the first to third genes.
