A hair styling composition comprising a reducing agent and an alkali agent, wherein (1) a hydroxyether amine compound (I) (wherein R1 represents a C6-24 linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group R2 represents a C1-6 linear or branched hydroxyalkylene or hydroxyalkylenyl group and R3 and R4 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-6 linear alkyl group), (2) an amidoamine compound (II) (wherein R5 represents a C6-24 linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group A represents -CONH- R6 represents a C1-6 linear or branched alkylene or alkylenyl group and R7 and R8 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-6 linear or branched alkyl group) and/or O-[2-hydroxy-3- (trimethylammonio)propyl]hydroxyethyl cellulose chloride, and (3) a higher alcohol are added to the composition.
