To protect the access port (260, 634) the multi-purpose covering (100) comprises a sealing portion (250) configured to releasably seal and protect the access port (260, 634) prior to first use of the medical device (210, 630), the at least one protective cap (160) being configured to be placed on the access port (260, 634) after removal of the sealing portion (250) from the access port (260, 634).
