The present invention provides various pharmaceutical compositions, in particular for oral administration, formulated for extended release of active compounds useful in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Parkinsons disease, and injuries to the nervous system. The active compound comprised within these compositions is preferably selected from N-propargyl-1-aminoindan, an enantiomer thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, more preferably rasagiline or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
