A method, system and apparatus for use in treating a patient receiving abiological substance, such as a cancer vaccine, to optimize therapy andprevent an adverse response. This system employs surrogate markers orindicators including blood levels of the vaccine to determine the nextrequired dose for a patient. Since the surrogate markers may be employed as apercent change in status, virtually any indicator can be used. Surrogatemarkers could include any measure of the effectiveness of the vaccine'saction. Given the effectiveness of the vaccine's action relative to thesurrogate markers, a change in vaccine dose is calculated by the system.Conversely, by employing this system, one could determine the expected resultof the vaccine dose change on the surrogate markers.
