An implantable device, including an implantable module including a first functional component, the implantable module being configured to effectively differentiate between a plurality of different second modules respectively placeable into signal communication with the module. In an exemplary embodiment, the implantable module is configured to analyze respective signals from the plurality of different second modules and determine a respective functionality of the second modules based on the respective signals.
