The present invention relates to an MRI contrast agent comprising silica nanoparticles, and more specifically, to an MRI contrast agent comprising silica nanoparticles in which chelate is combined, and a manufacturing method thereof. According to the present invention, the MRI contrast agent is combined with chelate containing Fe 3+ or MN 2+ ion on silica nanoparticles with excellent water dispersibility, thereby having low toxicity compared to a commercialized contrast agent including Gd 3+.
