PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hollow fiber membrane external perfusion type oxygenator capable of improving the effect of suppressing and preventing the adhesion of blood platelets.SOLUTION: The hollow fiber membrane external perfusion type oxygenator encloses in a housing gas exchanging porous hollow fiber membranes 3 comprising a hydrophobic polymer material and allows blood to flow on the outer surface side of the hollow fiber membranes and oxygen-containing gas to flow inside the hollow fiber membranes. The outer surface or outer surface layer 3a of the hollow fiber membranes forming a blood contacting section is coated with a polymer 18 having a repeating unit derived from an alkoxyalkyl (meth) acrylate.
