A composition comprising i) an oligomeric lactic acid of the following formula where n is an integer from 2 to 20, from 2 to 19, or from 2 to 18, and wherein the content of the oligomeric lactic acid is a trimer, i.e. HL, for which the coefficient n is 2, is from about 10 to about 20% of the total weight of the oligomeric lactic acid, and the number average molecular weight of the Maligomeric lactic acid is from about 200 to about 500 and the degree of polymerization of PDn is from about 2 to about 3, 8; and ii) a mucoadhesive agent, which is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose having a viscosity of from about 10 to about 20 cP.2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the number average molecular weight of the Molygomeric Lactic Acid is from about 200 to about 400.3. The composition of claim 1, wherein the Molygomeric lactic acid is from about 230 to about 340.4. The composition of claim 1, wherein the polydispersity coefficient of the oligomeric lactic acid is from about 1.45 or more. The composition of claim 1, wherein the polydispersity coefficient of the oligomeric lactic acid is from 1.45 to about 6, or from about 2 to 6.6. The composition according to claim 1, wherein the oligomeric acid contains a series of oligomers with n values from 1 to 13, which is reflected by the molecular weight distribution curve showing the oligomer content,%, as a function of the number of monomer units in the oligomeric lactic acid. The composition of claim 1, wherein the number average molecular weight of the oligomeric lactic acid is from about 200 to about 240, the weight average molecular weight is from about 290 to about 500, and the polydispersity coefficient is from 1.45 to 2.5.8.
