A gastrointestinal device for implanting within a patients gastrointestinal tract includes first and second expandable anchoring rings configured to be disposed on either side of a patients pylorus. The first expandable anchoring ring has a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, wherein in the expanded configuration the first expandable anchoring ring has a diameter larger than a maximum opening diameter of the pylorus. The second expandable anchoring ring also has a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, wherein in the expanded configuration the second expandable anchoring ring has a diameter larger than a maximum opening diameter of the pylorus. An intestinal bypass sleeve couples the first expandable anchoring ring and the second expandable anchoring ring, so as to allow a distance between the anchoring rings to exceed a width of the pylorus.
