A system and process for performing orthopedic surgery using a patient ' s existing implant as a matching tool in an orthopedic surgical procedure is provided. The system and process can be used in computer assisted systems or navigation systems to assist in the removal of bone prostheses, bone cements, or bone prostheses, typically used in hip arthroplasty, knee replacement, and the like. Removal of the prosthesis can be accomplished by conventional methods, such as a navigation system, a robotic assist device, or an articulated hand-held system.
