The present invention relates to a skin whitening composition containing a derivative of S-methylmethionine sulfonium (SMMS) as an effective component and, more specifically, relates to a skin whitening cosmetic composition, a functional healthy food composition, and a pharmaceutical composition and sanitary aid composition for treating or preventing hypermelanosis, containing a derivative of S-methylmethionine sulfonium or salt thereof as an effective component. A derivative of S-methylmethionine sulfonium (SMMS) is effective for preventing or treating hypermelanosis including freckles or senile plaque as well as whitening skin and overcomes the instability and odor of S-methylmethionine sulfonium (SMMS) used for conventional skin damage relieving and protecting compositions, and thus, the derivative is useful for a cosmetic composition, a functional healthy food composition, and a pharmaceutical composition and sanitary aid composition.본 발명은 S-메틸메티오닌 설포늄(S-Methylmethionine sulfonium, SMMS)의 유도체를 유효성분으로 포함하는 피부 미백용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는 S-메틸메티오닌 설포늄의 유도체 또는 이의 염을 유효성분으로 함유하는 피부 미백용 화장료 조성물, 건강기능식품 조성물, 멜라닌 색소 과다 침착 질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물 및 의약외품 조성물을 제공한다. 본 발명의 S-메틸메니오닌 설포늄(SMMS) 유도체는 피부 미백 효과를 나타낼 뿐만 아니라 주근깨, 노인성 반점 등 멜라닌 색소 과다 침착 질환의 예방 또는 치료에 효과가 있으며, 종래 피부 손상 억제 및 피부 보호용 조성물에서 사용되고 있는 S-메틸메티오닌 설포늄(SMMS)이 가지는 불안정성 및 악취 발생의 한계를 극복할 수 있어, 화장료 조성물, 건강기능식품 조성물, 약학적 조성물 및 의약외품 조성물, 의 유효성분으로 유용하다.
