Disclosed is a method of processing a food product, the method comprising wherein applying steam from a steam generator to at least a part of a food product for a predetermined period of time thereby cleaning and/or disinfecting at least a part of the food product, the food product having an inner surface area and an outer surface area the applied steam is applied to at least a part of the outer and/or inner surface area of the food product with no direct contact between the steam generator and the food product, and a velocity of said steam at said outer and/or inner surface area of the food product is at least about 8 m/s and at most about 100 meter per second. Also disclosed is a system for processing the food product.
