The present invention further relates to an electrostatic spray method for coating at least one substrate (12) with an anti-microbial coating (10, 10', 10", 10"', 10"). The present invention also relates to a use of a coating material to create an anti-microbial coating (10, 10', 10", 10"', 10") on a surface of a substrate (12), wherein the coating (10, 10', 10", 10'", 10") contains at least one metal oxide and/or at least one metal salt.
